Cotting-Smith Assembly House is owned by the Peabody Essex Museum and located in the Federal Street District of Salem, Massachusetts. This 1782 Federal-style building was constructed to house social gatherings and artistic performances. In 1796 Samuel McIntire, one of the country’s preeminent Federal-period architects and woodcarvers, remodeled it, adding a new facade with Ionic pilasters.
