Jun 07, 2008 · Patton's Headquarters. Fort George G. Meade. In 1917, Captain George S. Patton, Jr., sailed to France to join the staff of General John J. Pershing., In November of that year he was detailed to the Tank Corps and attended the course at the French Tank School. Patton participated in the Battle of Cambrai in December 1917, when tanks were first employed on a large scale.

In 1949 General Patton transferred from the Naval Reserve to the Air Force Reserve in the grade of major. He was attached to Headquarters Strategic Air Command for 11 years as an intelligence staff officer. In 1961 he was transferred to Headquarters U.S. Air Force Security Service as assistant to the commander and visited many oversea units.
