Welcome to the Putnam County Historical Society and Museum's website. The Pioneer Association was organized September 6, 1873 in Kalida, Ohio. The membership was limited to those people who had lived in the county prior to 1840. As time passed, this was revised several times. Now anyone interested in the Society may become a member.

Jun 16, 2014 · Marker Text: Putnam County was created by Act of Dec. 10, 1807 out of Baldwin County. Among the prominent men born in Putnam County were Joel Chandler Harris and L.Q.C. Lamar. It was named for General Israel Putnam (1718-1790), Massachusetts hero of the Revolution. He fought with the British in 1755 and in “Pontiac’s War” in 1762.

Jul 01, 2021 · Recently uncovered was a scrapbook from the Public Health Association of Putnam Valley-Kent, covering 1946-1968. Pages and pages of newspaper clippings and annual reports detailing the health of our community in the 1940s and 1950s. We also now know the year that linoleum was first laid down in the main classroom.
