Beginnings Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School (MCCES) began as the Pigeon and Flag Handler Platoon in 1932. On October 5, 1942, it was activated as the Signal School under the Signal Battalion in Quantico, VA. In 1943 the school moved to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, remaining there until the end of WWII offering 15 courses in the communications field.
